Carl Stupka, PE
Carl Stupka is a Vice President with Spring Stoops McCullen Engineering and is Registered Mechanical Engineer. He graduated from Penn State in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was with a mechanical contractor in Baltimore, where he worked for over three years. He did estimating and some assistant project management, which rekindled a desire to do HVAC design. In 1997, Carl worked for an engineering consulting firm in Baltimore, then transferred to Durham. The move to Durham opened opportunities for project management roles that were not available in Baltimore.
One of the things that Carl finds interesting about his job is the variety of projects that he works on. No day is the same. He likes going to the construction sites and seeing his design implemented. Carl likes being able to show people what he worked on, specific buildings or projects. The projects are always unique since there are generally no exact duplicates.
Carl joined Spring Stoops McCullen Engineering in February of 2007. He had worked with several of our other engineers and designers in the past and enjoyed the experience. He was also aware of Spring Stoops McCullen’s outstanding reputation and continued growth. Carl says that he recognized this company would provide a professional, team-oriented atmosphere where his talents would flourish.
Carl likes to look at the big picture. He says that his designs need to provide the owner with as much flexibility, reliability and ease of maintenance as possible. As a result, communication with the owner/architect on these issues is key to providing the client with a design that meets these expectations. Carl says it is imperative to keep the owner involved in the design process, not just tell him what he is going to get.
Carl is married and has two dogs. He earned his EIT certification while he was senior at Penn State. He earned his Professional Engineering license in Maryland in 2002 and is also registered in North Carolina. He is also registered with NCEES.
In his free time, Carl enjoys playing ice hockey, going mountain biking, playing golf, cheering frantically for his college football alma mater, and riding his motorcycle. He is a home improvement junkie.
