Dave Stoops, PE
David (Dave) Stoops is President of Spring Stoops McCullen Engineering, PA. Dave graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1986. He worked as an EIT for S&R Engineering in Urbana, Illinois until 1989, when he fell in love with North Carolina while on vacation. He moved to Durham and joined Knott & Roberts Engineering Associates, where he became a registered Professional Engineer. Dave worked for Dewberry & Davis, Mechanical Electrical Engineers & Designers and Baker Engineering Associates until 2002, when he established his own consulting firm, Professional Design Assistance Services. Dave is respected in the design community for his commitment, thoroughness and superior design quality.
Dave has extensive project experience with several area universities and colleges, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Durham Technical Community College. Dave also has a broad range of design experience at K-12 schools in the area, including numerous additions and renovations to Durham Public School facilities.
Dave is proficient at the design and specification of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings and facilities. He is knowledgeable and adept with AutoCAD, Sketchup and Revit computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) systems. His responsibilities include mechanical department management, design and CAD production, project management, and construction administration.
Dave lives in Durham with his wife and their three daughters. In his spare time, Dave enjoys personal computing, landscaping, hydroponics, home improvement and spending time with his family. He is an active member at Hope Valley Baptist Church.
